Background information

My name is Lorenza Della Donna, but you are welcome to call me Dr. Della Donna or Dr. DD :) I’m thrilled to kick off another year of teaching, exploring, and learning together. Science brought me here, but human connection is what keeps me here! My real passion is teaching and getting to build meaningful relationships with my students—the exact social energy I longed for during my years in research.

Originally from Italy, my love for science eventually led me to Los Angeles. After earning my PhD in Basic Science and Biotechnology from the University of Turin, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at UCLA, focusing on cancer stem cells. During my time in the lab, I realized that my true calling was in the classroom. I went on to complete a Master of Arts in Teaching at USC—and before you ask, no, I still refuse to pick sides in the Crosstown Rivalry, haha! This year marks my fifteenth year teaching biology and my tenth at CCHS, and I couldn’t be more excited for what's ahead.

Outside the classroom, I’m a proud mom of three (including twins!), which keeps my life wonderfully full, energetic, and unpredictable! In my personal time, I’m an avid believer in staying active—whether that means high-energy workouts, general fitness, swimming, or diving into a great book. Most of all, I cherish quality time spent with my family, friends, and our dog.
