About Ms. Herrera
Hello! I am super excited to be teaching English 9 and English 10 Honors at CCHS this year. It is my fourth year as a Centaur but my 11th year of teaching overall. I am born and raised in Chicago where I taught all levels of English over the course of eight years. I earned both my BA in English Education and my MEd in Literacy, Language and Culture from the University of Illinois at Chicago and am a certified Reading Specialist. Over the summers, I also work for a company called Quantum Learning Network, which is based out of Oceanside, California. Through my position at QLN, I have been able to facilitate summer camps for students and workshops for teachers around the country.
I love teaching English and working with students. In my free time, I enjoy biking, reading, lounging and watching Netflix, and spending time with my husband, my daughter, and my crazy pup, Coconut. I am also enjoying exploring my new home state; being close to the ocean is pretty cool and this weather is phenomenal!
Throughout this unusual period during which school will be closed, all information for our courses can be found using our Canvas site. You can find the information to log in below. In addition, I can be contacted via email throughout the school day at [email protected].
Once a week, I will schedule Zoom conferences for each class during its designated time--the dates/times will be posted on Canvas at the start of each week. In terms of office hours, I won't be adhering to super rigid times. Instead, email me and I will respond as soon as I can within the school day and will answer any questions you have, or we can schedule phone, Zoom, or Google Hangout conferences via email as well.
