UNIT 7 LEQ Notes
Historical Thinking Skill: CAUSATION or CONTINUITY & CHANGE OVER TIME (CCOT)
General Problems:
Lack of effective Contextualization – 3-4 sentences of pre-date rangewith details that are relevant to setting up the topic.
Scope of argument too narrow to make an overall effective case.
CCOT: Arguments should remember to include at least some elements of continuity even if thesis focuses on transformative change.
Failure to show causal connection for main prompt event (WWI, women’s rights, technology) and society – evidence presented in a correlative context instead – meaning that events need to be presented in the context of how they resulted from the focus event or change.
Not enough specific details (key terms and data) especially for the Causes of the Great Depression prompt – many arguments were too general and lacked specific examples to support generalizations.
Lack of depth – too brief to be effective.
