Description
This year long course will be both interesting and challenging. In this course we will explore the nature of the biological sciences according to facts, theories, history, phenomena, themes and applications. Students will learn essential observational, investigative, and analytical skills. Topics include: ecology, features and functions of the cells, DNA and genetics, physiology and evolution. We will cover a lot of information in this course following California’s Next Generation Science Standards.
Students will also learn and develop effective study habits, note-taking abilities and scientific reading skills. A Students success depends on their performance in and out of class.

On a separate sheet of paper. Write a paragraph for how the show "Survivor" can avoid destroying the environment while they are filming. Your paragraph should include: what the issue/problem is, a solution for the problem, and rules the crew and cast should follow while they are filming.  This can be titled avoid destroying the environment and will be included in your packet for this project.

Biome Survivor Group Project: Your team has been chosen to participate in the teen version of the television series, Survivor. Your main objective is to explain how life would be if you were to live in a biome such as the arctic tundra or the tropical rainforest. How would you survive? What would you eat? Where would you live? What would you see? Pretend that this presentation is being given to the producers of the Survivor TV show as a potential site for the next season.   The presentation should be informative (include all of the required items) but it should also be creative-- it should be colorful, well-displayed and neat

Test on Chapter 3 Tuesday 10/6/15. Please know what the key terms mean as well as how they apply to the unit of Ecology. Out of the 5 free response questions 2 of them will be used on your test. Please prepare each question with a sufficient answer. The test will include a mixture of approximately 50 multiple choice, true/false and matching questions as well as 2 free response questions.

Food web Lab: Student will construct an accurate food web and discuss the implications of species extinction in the web.  On a separate sheet of paper write a paragraph how your food web was affected when an organism became extinct. Write how their death impacts the animals who feed on them and how it will affect the species that were preyed upon them. Turn in your paragraphs only 9/18

Levels of Organization Foldable. Students will create a foldable that will include the levels of organization in order, a picture, and a brief definition. 
Materials: 2 pieces of white paper, scissors, rulers, pencils and other writing tools. 
 
Directions: 1) fold each paper in half to create two papers that are 4" by 11"
2) Measure from the bottom of the folded paper 5  (2 inch) sections with a one inch section at the top for the title: levels of organization. 
3) only cut the top folded paper 
4) on the front of the paper write the word and a picture 
5) on the inside of the folded sheet write the definition 
6) each folded paper should have 5 words 
In order the words should include: Molecules, cells, groups of cells, organism, species, population, community, ecosystem, biome, biosphere
