Final Exam

Today we played review Jeopardy to prepare for the Fall Final Exam.

Today we finished discussing imperialism in India. Also, we crossed a few things off the Final Exam Study Guide. Lastly, we did a "warm-up" on Imperialism in Asia. 

Today we finished discussing South Africa (notes, timeline, and map). Next, we started discussing British Imperialism of India. We'll finish this tomorrow. 

Today we finished discussing "Managing and Resisting Imperialism", which includes answering the last set of questions using the attached reading on "Menelik II". Next, we went over all of the answers to the questions, which I've also attached below. Lastly, we started discussing the imperialism of South Africa, which we'll continue with tomorrow. 

Today we discussed Document F and students turned in the entire document packet on European Imperialism of Africa. Next, students did a self-analysis on the Units III, IV, and V exams. If you were absent and wish to look over these exams, please sign up with me for Centaur Plus. Lastly, we continued working on the "Managing and Resisting Imperialism" PPT. We almost finished and we'll finish this tomorrow. 

Today we discussed last night's HW (Doc E). Next, we analyzed Document F and students need to answer the questions for Document F over the weekend (Due Monday, please be prepared to discuss). We then finished up the little bit we had left from the "Imperialism in Africa" PPT and started the "Managing and Resisting Imperialism" PPT in which we do a bit of notes and then a bit of textbook work (We got through question #3 on slide #3). 

Please make sure you are preparing for the Final Exam over the weekend! 

 

Today we discussed Documents C, D of the Imperialism in Africa document packet. Please complete document E tonight for HW. Next, we continued with the discussion on Imperialism in Africa. Please make sure you bring your textbook tomorrow as a good portion of the class will rely on its use. Also, please remember, your Inventions project is due tomorrow. 

Today we discussed Documents A, B of the Imperialism in Africa packet. Tonight for HW, please work on documents C, D and be prepared to discuss tomorrow. Next, we continued with our "Imperialism in Africa" information. 

Today we continued with Imperialism in Africa. After discussing what to look for in discussing the social, political, and economic reasons for imperialism in Africa, I assigned documents A and B for HW (please see me if you were absent as I am unable to upload these documents to this website). 

Today we started Unit VI: Imperialism and Colonialism. We started with "Types of Imperialism" and then started "Imperialism in Africa". We'll continue with this the next few days. 

Today students took the Unit V Exam. If you were absent today please make sure you are ready to take the test Monday, Dec. 2nd. I also gave out the Fall Final Study Guide today which is attached below. Please have a fun and safe Thanksgiving Break! 

Today we finished discussing Communism. We took notes, looked at a visual comparing Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism. Next, we listened to "The Internazionale", the Communist "theme" song and analyzed the lyrics. Lastly, we reviewed for tomorrow's Unit V Exam. 

Today I assigned an "inventions" project, which will be due Friday, December 6th. Please utilize the attached "Movers and Shakers" ppt as a foundation of information for this project, however you will still need to do research to complete this project.  We finished yesterday's information on "The Changing Industrial World". We also started (and will finish tomorrow) the attached information on Socialism and Communism. Your Unit Test is Friday. 

Today we finished discussing both "Industrialization Spreads" and "The Changing Industrial World". Please make sure to review this information for the upcoming Unit V Exam on Friday. 

Today we discussed the obstacles to the industrial revolution spreading to other countries and how some of those countries eventually industrialized. Also, I have moved the Unit V Exam to this Friday, pushed back from this Thursday.  

Today we finished learning about urban life during the industrial era by looking at the daily life of child laborers William Cooper (in PPT) and Elizabeth Bentley (child labor testimony). After reviewing and thinking about the information we discussed yesterday and today, please complete #1 Activity Option which is on the bottom right corner of the "child labor testimony" reading. In your journal entry, please write two paragraphs explaining the following: what kind of a job you do (textile mill, lumber yard, coal mine, glass blower), the difficulties of your work, the physical issues you have due to your work, and offer a solution to these problems. This is due on Monday and can be written on a separate sheet of paper or the back of the "child labor testimony" handout. 

 

Today we did a long warm-up activity pertaining to the way working-class and urban poor people lived during the industrial revolution. Next, we started talking about massive urbanization and child labor. 

Today we started Unit V: Industrial Revolution and Urbanization.

Unit IV Exam. Study guide attached. 

Today we finished discussing Romanticism. The ID options for tomorrow's test are: Conservatives, Padre Jose Morelos, and Seven Weeks War. You can choose one to write about but remember this is for extra credit, so I encourage you to do this. 

Today we discussed German Unification and started discussing Romanticism. Please make sure you're studying for this Friday's Unit IV Exam. 

Today I returned some work to students (Unit III IDs, Declaration of Rights of Man, October Textbook Stamp Sheet). Next, we started discussing Nationalism in Europe. We'll continue with this tomorrow, but we got through Slide 6.

Today students worked on an assignment based on language families and languages in Europe and how languages can be unifying as well as barriers to unification. If you were absent, please get the assignment from me. Lastly, we did a brief warm-up. Have a good weekend! 

Today we finished discussing Latin American Revolutions by discussing Mexico's Revolution as well as Brazil's. We then listened to a "Voices from the Past" activity about Padre Hidalgo. Please remember to study for the upcoming Unit IV Exam (Friday, November 8th). 

Today I reminded everyone about the procedures for taking the PreACT tomorrow. Next, we did a warm-up on Jose de San Martin. Lastly, we continued with the attached notes, finishing to Mexico for periods 4, 5 and finishing to Brazil with period 1. Today we officially started Unit IV: Nationalist Revolutions of the 1800s. We completed slides 1-5 (C1.) and will continue with this tomorrow. 

Today we started Unit IV: Nationalist Revolutions in 1800s of Latin America and Europe. I passed out the study guide for this unit. Students then worked on the attached map. The map should be completed by Monday. 

Today students took the Unit III Exam. If you were absent (under normal circumstances) please be prepared to take the exam tomorrow. 

Today we reviewed for tomorrow's Unit III Exam. The study guide is attached below. The IDs (choose one of the five to write about) are: Declaration of Rights of Man, Bastille, Jean-Paul Marat, Reign of Terror, Guillotine. 

Today we discussed the Congress of Vienna and then reviewed for Thursday's Unit III Exam. 

Today students completed their Unit II Self-Analysis. Next, we finished discussing Napoleon with a "Voices from the Past" listening activity. Lastly, we did a warm-up on changes to Europe after Napoleon's defeat and removal. 

Today we started off with a warm-up pertaining to Napoleon. Next, we began, but did not finish, the attached PPT (got through slide #3). We'll continue with this tomorrow. 

Today, students started off by checking their answers to last night's French Revolution review HW. Next, we did a warm up on the guillotine (slide 5 of attached PPT). After discussing our answers, we finished the attached PPT by discussing the "Reign of Terror".

Today we discussed the HW from last night (French Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen). Next, we discussed the "Reign of Terror" (we did not work on the Guillotine slide yet) and I assigned the attached CLOZE French Revolution Review for HW (due tomorrow). 

Today we finished the attached "French Revolution" including some video clips. I also assigned the attached "Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen" for HW. Please annotate the reading (think about the clause protects/says and which Enlightenment philosopher influenced which clause) before answering the questions. Please be prepared to discuss this HW tomorrow at the beginning of class. 

Today we started discussing the causes to the French Revolution. We got through slide # 5 (make sure you write down the video questions and leave one space in between each question in your notebook). We'll continue with this on Monday. 

In-class timed DBQ paragraph: which Enlightenment Philosopher had the most significant impact on Western Democracy.

Today we discussed the Enlightenment influences on Western Democracy (the chart at back of the attached PPT). We then discussed and prepared for the Unit II Exam. Lastly, we did a journal which we then discussed. 

Today we discussed the HW (Doc E). Next, we did a brief review of the Enlightenment Philosophers and their beliefs. Lastly, we discussed how the ideas of the Enlightenment spread to other areas. (there is a chart on the last slide- we'll do this tomorrow). 

Today we discussed Mary Astell and Mary Wollstonecraft, two female Enlightenment thinkers. I also assigned Doc E (questions on bottom right corner) of the DBQ packet for HW; please be prepared to discuss this tomorrow. 

Today we discussed last night's HW (Document C of the Document Packet). Next, we finished discussing the philosophies of Voltaire and Montesquieu. Please complete Document D of the Document packet tonight for HW and be prepared to discuss the information tomorrow. 

Today we did a self-analysis on the Unit I Exam. We then discussed the HW (Documents A, B) of the DBQ Document Packet and I assigned Document C tonight for HW (Due tomorrow). Lastly, we started discussing the philosophy of Voltaire and Montesquieu. We only got through the Philosophes and Voltaire (2nd slide). We'll continue with this tomorrow. 

Today we finished discussing Beccaria. I also briefly introduced the DBQ which we'll be writing at the end of next week. Attached are two documents(Locke and Rousseau) which are due Monday. This is in preparation for the DBQ. Please have these answered by Monday. Have a good weekend! 

Today I gave students time to work on their Hobbes vs Locke assignment we started yesterday. Next, we started talking about Rousseau and Beccaria. We only got through Rousseau so if you were absent today please only take notes on Rousseau. 

Today students worked on an assignment based on yesterday's information of the philosophies of Hobbes and Locke. Students will have 10 more minutes tomorrow to finish this up in class. I have attached the assignment as well as some vocabulary help. 

Today I handed out the Unit II Study Guide (Test date TBD). Please note, you only need the top or bottom half of the attached page (top is mirrored on the bottom to conserve paper). After doing a warm-up reviewing yesterday's information on the Scientific Revolution, we discussed the philosophies of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke. 

Today we started Unit II: The Enlightenment. We started with a warm-up asking students to put the following terms in their own words: Geocentric Theory, Heliocentric Theory, and Scientific Method. Next, we discussed the Scientific Revolution. Lastly, I handed out the attached reading and questions on Galileo's Trial. This is due tomorrow. 

The Unit I Exam is scheduled for today. Attached is the Study Guide. 

Happy Friday! Today students took their first Unit Exam. If you were absent today please expect to make up the test on Monday. When students were done they began working on the English Bill of Rights Document (attached below). This will be due on Monday. Enjoy your weekend! 

Today we finished discussing English History with the Glorious Revolution. We also reviewed for Friday's Unit I Exam. 

Today students turned in their King James I speech questions (if they did not do so yesterday). We then got into the rule of England by Oliver Cromwell as well as the Restoration of the Crown/ Monarchy. Lastly, we reviewed for Friday's exam and I have students the prompt for the written portion: Why was King Charles I overthrown? (hint: think of important documents, and events before and after the English Civil War)

Please make sure you're studying for the Exam! 

Today we read King James I speech to Parliament. If you did not finish this in class please finish it tonight for HW and turn it in tomorrow. Next, we discussed the English Civil War. 

Today we started with a Warm-Up pertaining to the signing of the Magna Carta (1st slide in attached PPT). Next, we discussed the Magna Carta, including the causes and effects. Please make sure you're studying for the upcoming Unit I Exam (Friday, Sept. 20th)

Today we continued with the Age of European Exploration. Please make sure you also study for your upcoming Unit I Exam (Friday, September 20th)

Today I went over the syllabus (please sign and return ASAP). We then did a warm-up (first slide of the PPT) and discussed it as as group (fun!). Next, we started, but did not finish the attached PPT on European Exploration. We got through slide #4 ("Europeans Explore the East"). We'll continue with this tomorrow.  

Today on the 18th Memorial of 9/11 I showed my personal pictures from visiting Ground Zero in 2015 and answered any questions students had about this day. 

Today we started off with a Warm Up (first slide of attached PPT). After discussing our answers as a class, we discussed the Ming Dynasty.

Today I was absent, the sub was supposed to discuss the Mughal Empire. Students should then fill out the last column on the attached comparison chart. 

Today I explained to students that there will be some days in the upcoming weeks that I may miss school to help with my Mom during her illness and end-of-life stage. I greatly appreciate the support (direct and indirect) which I am receiving from my students. I handed out the Unit I Exam study guide (Exam will not be for at least two more weeks, but I suggest studying as you go). I also went over yesterday's information on the Ottoman Empire and answered questions students had. Unfortunately I need to take tomorrow and Friday off to help with my Mom's care, so I will see you all on Tuesday. Please enjoy your three-day weekend! 

Due to my Mom's illness, I was absent today. The substitute allowed students to finish up their Gunpowder Empires Maps. He went over the Ottoman Empire with students (attached PPT). 

Today we reviewed the ideas of absolutism vs democracy (please see attached review). Next, students read about the social structure of absolute empires and filled out the attached pyramid. Lastly, students drew in the "Gunpowder Empires" (Ottoman, Safavid, and Mughal) on the attached map. 

Today we started with the Journal Questions: What is power? What are different sources of power? Is power always legitimate (earned and used fairly)? After answering, students shared their answers with their "color group" of four people and we then shared out with the class some answers.  Next, we discussed "Democracy vs. Absolutism".
