Today we discussed last night's HW (Doc E). Next, we analyzed Document F and students need to answer the questions for Document F over the weekend (Due Monday, please be prepared to discuss). We then finished up the little bit we had left from the "Imperialism in Africa" PPT and started the "Managing and Resisting Imperialism" PPT in which we do a bit of notes and then a bit of textbook work (We got through question #3 on slide #3).

Today we finished learning about urban life during the industrial era by looking at the daily life of child laborers William Cooper (in PPT) and Elizabeth Bentley (child labor testimony). After reviewing and thinking about the information we discussed yesterday and today, please complete #1 Activity Option which is on the bottom right corner of the "child labor testimony" reading. In your journal entry, please write two paragraphs explaining the following: what kind of a job you do (textile mill, lumber yard, coal mine, glass blower), the difficulties of your work, the physical issues you have due to your work, and offer a solution to these problems. This is due on Monday and can be written on a separate sheet of paper or the back of the "child labor testimony" handout.

Today I explained to students that there will be some days in the upcoming weeks that I may miss school to help with my Mom during her illness and end-of-life stage. I greatly appreciate the support (direct and indirect) which I am receiving from my students. After answering, students shared their answers with their "color group" of four people and we then shared out with the class some answers.  Next, we discussed "Democracy vs. Absolutism".
