Assignment

Please add to your HW packet:

Fold a piece of paper in half horizontally (hamburger style)

Top half:

Where do you stand on the Anglo-Irish Treaty issue?  Do you side with the Michael Collins pro-treaty side or the Eamon de Valera anti-treaty side?

You have a friend that is on the opposite side of the treaty issue that you are on.

Using the top half of the paper, write a persuasive letter to your friend trying to convince them to join your side of the Anglo-Irish Treaty debate.  Be sure to include who you support and why using examples from notes, discussions and the film clips.

Bottom Half:

Prompt: What method would you use to gain independence from the British?  The Gandhi method or Michael Collins method?

Write a paragraph on the bottom half of the paper stating if you think Gandhi’s non-violent resistance or Michael Collins’ IRA tactics were the better method.

Be sure to give background information on colonies wanting to leave the British Empire, include a thesis that directly answers the question and give at least three pieces of evidence from class notes/discussions/films clips
