Today we finished up any "loose ends" and reviewed for the test. Please see yesterday's entry for the HW due Monday. 

Today we discussed U.S. intervention in Latin America.

Today we got through a lot! Please see notes attached below to prepare for Wednesday's Cold War Exam. 

Please read documents C and D. Answer the questions for documents C and D and based on these two documents, write a thesis answering the question, "Who started the Cold War?". 

Regarding the Exam, it has been moved to next Wednesday and you can take the information from #12 off the study guide (you will not be tested on this information). Today we finished up the notes on Vietnam (only some classes had to finish this). Next, we discussed the genocide in Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge. Lastly, some classes started discussing the foundation of Israel and how the Middle East reacts to this. 

Today we finalized the Vietnam War as well as listened to some protest music ("What's Goin' On" by Marvin Gaye and "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield). 

 

Today we discussed the events leading to the Vietnam War. We will continue this tomorrow. I also assigned a double primary source document reading and questions. You will have to get this from me tomorrow if you were absent today. 

 

Today we took a quiz on the Cold War. We then finished the Cuban Revolution and I handed out the attached HW on the Cuban Missile Crisis. Lastly, we watched clips from the film "Castro". 

Today we discussed Cuba turning communist, the Bay of Pigs invasion, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Please remember to study for Thursday/Friday's quiz (study numbers 1-6 on attached Study Guide). Also, the attached study guide is for the upcoming Unit XII Exam, scheduled for next Friday, May 27th. 

Today we discussed Brinkmanship and the Space Race. We then worked on the Sputnik Document in class. Lastly, we learned about the Berlin Wall.

Today we finished discussing the Chinese Civil War and its aftermath. I also assigned the attached documents for HW. 

Today we continued with the Chinese Civil War and the results. 

Today we answered questions about the three letters written to President Truman regarding the Berlin Crisis. Next, we started learning about the Chinese Civil War ("part two"). We'll finish this up tomorrow. 

Today we discussed the Berlin Airlift (please see notes below). We then read three letters written to President Truman about the airlift and Berlin Crisis. Please see the three letters as an example. On the attached document, please follow the prompt at the bottom and write your own letter about the Berlin Crisis and Airlift to President Truman. At this point, you do not need to do #s 1-5. 

Today we finished up yesterday's notes (please see yesterday's entry). Students then got into groups to complete a chart, jigsaw-style, on the following documents. Please let me know if you have questions. The chart's completion is worth points! 

Today we started discussing the attached PPT on initial problems during the Cold War. 

Today we started Unit 12: Cold War. We discussed post-war Europe and students read about the Yalta and Potsdam conferences and answered questions in their notebooks. I have also attached a basic timeline of some of the events ending WWII and starting the Cold War,. 

Today we took the World War II Exam. You'll need to make this up ASAP if you were absent today. 

Today we finished discussing the Allied Victory and then followed up with the Manhattan Project and the Victory in the Pacific. Remember- Test on Monday! The Study Guide is also attached below. You also need to study your maps (countries, alliances, take-overs, battles)!

Today we finished up the Japan's Pacific Campaign PPT (started yesterday). Next we read about and also answered the following questions in notebooks on the Bataan Death March. 

Today we discussed Japan's continuation of their empire building and attacks in the Pacific during WWII. 

Today we discussed the German's attack in Northern Africa and the Soviet Union. 

Today we discussed Hitler's Lightning War on the Western Front. 

Today we were on an assembly schedule, so all classes except 3rd period were only 20 minutes long. In that time, students worked to review for their Unit Exam on WWII (which will be April 29th). 

Today we finished watching "Schindler's List" clips. We then completed the attached Holocaust Doc Analysis Chart by analyzing the attached documents "Himmler to Hitler Map", "Himmler to Hitler Doc 2", "Death Camp Totals". Lastly, complete the "Concentration Camp Worksheet" by examining the "Death Camp Totals" document. Please turn in the completed chart as well as the "Concentration Camp Worksheet" for points. 

Today we continued watching "Schindler's List". If you were absent, please complete the attached "Schindler's List Alt Holocaust Assignment" Parts 1 and 2. 

Today we watched selected clips from the film "Schindler's List". Students answered questions as we watched. We will finish this on Monday. If you have access to the film and would like to complete the questions (to earn points), please download and print out "Schindler's List Move Questions" and "Schindler's List Playlist". Complete the questions and turn in for points. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS to the film, please download and print out "Schindler's List Alt Holocaust Assignment" Parts 1 and 2. Please complete these and turn in to earn points. 

Today students analyzed the testimonies of survivors of the Holocaust and discussed the three testimonies with other students. Next, students analyzed documents pertaining to the Final Solution. 

Today we finished discussing "Life Under the Nazis". We also analyzed four Kristallnacht-related documents (1,3,5,7) by answering the questions on the "Kristallnacht Docs Analysis" document, all of which are attached.  

Today we "caught up" on our Spring Break experiences. Next, we finished the "Life in Nazi Germany" PPT (please see upload for March 24th). 

Today we started looking at life under the Nazis. We will finish this on Friday. If viewing at home, please make sure you click on the pictures in the PPT. Some of them have hyperlinks to videos that are interesting to watch. 

Today students completed their Socratic Seminar self-analysis and reflection (below, attached). This counts towards students' overall grade for this activity. We then discussed the pros and cons of yesterday's Socratic Seminar. Next, I gave out the Unit XI Study Guide (test not for a few weeks after we're back from Spring Break). We finished up Monday's notes on the Japan's growing empire (attached). Lastly, we started (but will finish tomorrow), reading and analyzing four primary source documents about the Rape of Nanking. 

Today students conducted a Socratic Seminar. For HW students will complete the attached self-analysis. 

Today we finished discussing the aggression of Mussolini and Hitler. (Please see previous uploaded "Aggressors on the March" ppt.). We then took an open-note quiz which you'll need to make up if you're absent. Lastly, we started talking about Japanese expansion with the attached notes (we'll finish this on Wednesday). Please make sure you prepare properly for tomorrow's socratic seminar (bring class notes, the reading, your questions, and a pen). 

Today we continued discussing Hitler and Mussolini's drives for an empire. For HW, please make sure you have six questions (two for each level) written to prepare for Tuesday's Socratic Seminar. (reading & directions attached). 

Today we finished "Rise of Fascism" (please see yesterday's entry for that PPT). Next, I discussed with students what they wanted to learn about World War II. Lastly, we started talking about Hitler expanding German land in the attached PPT. This PPT will take us through next Monday. Make sure you finished the first section of your map assignment ("Aggressors on the March") which was uploaded a few days ago. 

Please see the attached "Socratic Seminar Directions" and complete 1-4 by next Tuesday, when we'll have the Socratic Seminar on the attached reading "The Children's Story". 

Today we finished discussing the "14 Characteristics of Fascism" (please see below). Next, I discussed the map HW, which will be assigned in "chunks" over the next couple of weeks. The first section "Aggressors on the March" will be due this Thursday, March 17th. Lastly, we started going over "Rise of Fascism". Please remember that tomorrow you will meet me at the Guidance Office with your schedule of classes for next year filled out. 

Today we finished discussing yesterday's work (Post WWI- life). Next we discussed the difficulties of German life (unemployment, hopelessness, hyperinflation) before "voting" as Germans in the 1933 election. Lastly, we discussed the 14 Characteristics of Fascism.

Today students took the Unit 9 Exam and worked on the attached document for HW. 

Today we discussed Middle Eastern Independence Movements and reviewed for tomorrow's test.

Today we discussed the answers to last night's HW. Next, we did the attached file "WH Warm-Up 26-1" as a journal to start the Chinese Revolution. We started the "Collapse of Imperial China" but will continue this tomorrow. 

Today I assigned the attached project and told students which person they were to focus on. If you were absent today please make sure you talk to me to know who to do your project on. Next, I handed out the Unit IX Study Guide. The test will be a week from today, Wednesday, March 9th. Next, students got into groups and worked together to analyze questions based on four quotes by Mao Zedong. If you were absent today, please make sure you print out the document and complete it tonight. Be ready to discuss the quotes and your answers tomorrow. 

Today we discussed the national programs initiated under Stalin and how he maintained control ("1. S.U. Under Stalin"). Next, using the guidelines in "What is Propaganda", students analyzed various propaganda posters in class. If you were absent today, please copy or print "S.U. Under Stalin" and use the guidelines to answer the questions ("Propaganda Poster Analysis 2") to analyze the attached propaganda poster "Stalin Poster #2"). 

Today we discussed Stalin taking over the USSR and some of the techniques he used to maintain his power. 

Today we finished discussing the Russian Revolution. 

Today I was absent. Students watched a 20-minute video on the Russian Revolution and answered questions. Using their textbooks, students then worked on the two attached documents. This should be finished in class, however, if it is not, it needs to be completed for HW. 

Today we discussed the qualities of good vs. bad leaders. Please bring your textbook tomorrow for points!  

Today we did quick book work and discussion at the beginning of class. We then discussed the Treaty of Versailles and the aftermath of WWI. We'll finish these notes tomorrow as well as review for Friday's WWI test. Please bring your textbooks tomorrow as well!  :)

Today we discussed the end of WWI (armistice). We also did a quick review of which country belonged to which alliance (WWI Test this FRIDAY!). Please bring your textbooks tomorrow! 

Please print out or copy in your notes 1-10 (underlined portions) of the 10 Stages of Genocide. We then discussed the Armenian Genocide and I assigned the the two Word documents (Armenian Genocide and Flu Pandemic of 1918).  

Today we discussed how the world got involved in WWI. I also assigned the Zimmerman Note analysis, due tomorrow. 

Today we discussed the road to America getting involved in WWI. We also listened to and analyzed the lyrics to the song "Over There". 

Today we discussed how many countries in the rest of the world got involved in WWI. We then discussed what propaganda is (please look at the first slide in the "Propaganda Examples" PPT. Lastly, please download, print out, and analyze the attached "British Lions" propaganda poster. You do not need to do number 5 on the paper, and please turn it in. 

Today we discussed the HW due today (Weapons of WWI packet) and then discussed more weapons from WWI in the attached PPT. Please remember, you can use this information for your Trench Letter Essay, which is due next Wednesday!  :)

Today we finished discussing "Tactics and Battles". I handed out the HW "WWI Weapons Documents", which is due this Friday, February 5th. I also gave out the Unit VIII Test Study Guide. The test will not be for another two weeks, however. 

Today we discussed "Europe Plunges Into War". We then went over the WWI Trench Letter Assignment, which is due Wednesday, February 10th. Lastly, we started the "Tactics and Battles" discussion and will finish this tomorrow. 

Today we discussed the answers students gave for HW. We then finished the notes from yesterday (attached below) and I also assigned the HW (attached below). For the HW, you only need to write one letter from the perspective of one of the options. 

Today we worked on the attached PPT. I also assigned the attached "Crisis in the Balkans" for HW, due tomorrow.  

Today we answered a DBQ in a timed-response. If you were absent, please contact me to reschedule this ASAP. We also completed the attached map and worked further on the 'History's Mysteries" activity. 

Today we got new seating assignments and completed the attached PPT. We also started an activity called "History's Misteries". The PPT is attached below but unfortunately I cannot attach the activity sheet- please get this from me in class and use the attached PPT to complete and turn in. Please bring your textbook tomorrow as well as all documents necessary to complete the timed, in-class DBQ answering the question: What is the main reason for European Imperialism in Africa?".

Today we discussed the documents for the upcoming in-class DBQ (please see me for a copy). We also filled out the attached chart to help organize our thoughts before writing the DBQ. Students are to complete the third column for HW. Students then worked individually on the attached document "Franco-Prussian War, 1870", which is due tomorrow. 

Today we worked on the DBQ packet of documents (we'll write this in class next Wednesday). Unfortunately I do not have an electronic copy of this packet- you'll have to get a copy of this from me on Monday. 

Today we discussed Japanese imperialism.
