Today we finished discussing some of the reforms that came out of the Industrial Revolution.

Today we used our textbooks to label the countries of Europe on the attached map. We then discussed life for child workers during the Industrial Revolution. 

Today we did a brief review using the textbook and then learned about life for the average urban child during the Industrial Revolution. 

Today we took a brief "Time Out" to discuss the events that happened in San Bernardino yesterday as well as discuss proper "lock down" procedures here at CCHS.  

Today students used their textbooks to complete the attached document. We then finished up the attached PPT from yesterday on Britain's industrialization. Students then listened to a CD about Charles Dickens and answered questions about what they heard. 

Today we started Unit VI: Industrial Revolution. Please see attached notes below. 

Today we discussed Romanticism in the attached notes. Unfortunately the PPT file was too large, so I had to delete the music files that were embedded in the PPT.    :(

Today students had the option of working solo or together to complete a packet on the decline of the Ottoman Empire. Please see me for a copy of this packet (unable to upload on-line). 

Today students worked independently on Google Chromebooks to work towards completion of their Unit V Project, due Monday, November 30th. 

Today we finished the attached PPT. I also assigned the attached PDF files for HW, due Monday. *Note: DO NOT DO "Part C" yet ("1b. BV Chp 8"). 

Please remember to bring any and all materials you have to take advantage of class time to work on your Unit V Project (PPT or book). You will lose participation points if you are not prepared and are wasting class time on Monday. Remember, the assignment is due Monday, November 30th. 

Today we discussed the recent attacks in both Paris, France and Beirut, Lebanon. We also began the attached PowerPoint. Students should continue utilizing their notes, textbook, and researched information to work on their Unit V Project (book or PowerPoint). 

Today we finished discussing Latin American Revolutions. Students then participated on a "jigsaw" of sharing information about the Latin American Revolutionaries (please see me for the assignment if absent). Students also began working on the attached document, which is HW. Please remember to bring your notebook on Monday for an Open-Note Quiz (covering last week's information). 

Today we continued discussing Latin American Revolutions. We also used the textbook to work on the attached map using the attached directions. 

Today I introduced the Unit V project (attached below), which is due November 30th. We also continued discussing Latin American Revolutions. 

Today we spent time checking our Centaur Plus schedule for today (please remember to check Monday and Thursday mornings!). We then officially started Unit V: Revolutions. We began discussing the class system established by the Europeans in Latin America and some classes got through discussing Haiti's Revolution. Please see attached notes below. 

Today students took the Fall Midterm. If you were absent, please expect to make up the test on Monday, unless we have established other options.

I was absent today. Students watched the second half of a dvd on the French Revolution and answered questions as they watched. If you were absent, I'll excuse you for this assignment. 

I was absent today. Students worked out of their textbook answering the questions on the attached Microsoft Word document. Students then reviewed the French Revolution by completing the attached Adobe document. 

Today I was away at a conference. Students watched the History Channel video "The French Revolution" and answered questions as they watched. There is no make-up for this assignment. If you are absent and get it cleared, I will excuse you for this assignment. 

Today we finished up "Terror Grips France". Students then shared their HW answers together to ensure that they earn more points. Lastly, we started discussing Napoleon Bonaparte. We'll finish "The Rise and Fall of Napoleon" on Thursday. 

Today we discussed the "Reign of Terror" and I assigned the attached "Declaration of Rights of Man" DBQ, which is due Monday. 

Today we discussed the last two slides of the attached PPT. I also assigned the attached CLOZE assignment on the French Revolution. 

Today, students worked in groups of 4-5 to analyze and answer questions about various Primary and Secondary Source Documents. Please see me for a copy of the packet and directions. 

Today we discussed a bit more of the French Revolution, including the imbedded political cartoon. Most classes also worked in groups to complete the attached chart.

Today students answered the journal question: What, if any, things would you be willing to VIOLENTLY protest for/against? After discussion, we began the attached notes on the French Revolution. We will finish this tomorrow. 

All students took the PSAT today. No notes, assignments, or HW to post. I hope you all did well!   :) 

Unit III Exam: The Enlightenment and The American Revolution. Please see attached study guide. 

Today we talked about the new American nation and the struggles, compromises, and successes to create it. Please study these notes for tomorrow's Unit III Exam. 

Sorry for adding this so late! Today we discussed the American Revolution (War for American Independence). Please study this for Tuesday's Unit III Exam. 

Today we discussed the Causes of the American Revolution. 

Today we discussed two female Enlightenment thinkers, Astell and Wollstonecraft. We then got into a good class discussion about "feminism" and overall sexism in our society. Depending on how far we got in today's notes, please complete as much as you can of the attached graphic organizer. Do not do "C" at all. 

Today we finished up The Enlightenment: Wollstonecraft and Astell. We then discussed the Enlightenment thinkers' influence on Western Civilization. Please study for the Unit III Test (Enlightenment and American Revolution). 

Today we finished discussing Rousseau and Beccaria. We discussed the answers to the last question as a class. We then took a review matching quiz (Test tentatively next Tuesday, October 13th) on the Enlightenment philosophers we've studied so far. Lastly, we started (just barely) the PPT on Wollstonecraft and Astell. We'll finish these tomorrow. No HW except to study for the exam. 

Today we finished up yesterday's notes on Voltaire and Montesquieu. We started class today by discussing their philosophies and influences on the American Gov't. We then began learning about Rousseau and Beccaria. I also passed out the Unit III Exam Study Guide (Exam not for another 1 1/2 weeks). No HW this weekend but I suggest you start preparing for the Unit III Exam using the Study Guide. 

On Wednesday, we worked in groups to analyze and complete a DBQ (Document Based Question) comparing Hobbes and Locke (attached below). For HW, the last question at the bottom of the page needs to be answered in paragraph form:

Do you agree more with Locke or Hobbes? Why?

To answer this well, you need the following in your paragraph:

- Intro (1-2 sentences)

- Thesis (1 sentence)

- Two Supporting Pieces of Evidence ( 4-6 sentences)

- Conclusion (1 sentence)

Journal Question: How can a pen, pencil, or computer be a "deadly weapon"? Today, we discussed the Enlightenment Philosophers, Voltaire and Montesquieu. No HW tonight, but you should review your notes. 

Today we checked our U.S. vs English Bill of Rights venn diagram. We then discussed the Scientific Revolution. For HW, students are to review their notes by completing the two worksheets (attached). 

Today we discussed the Enlightenment Philosophers, Thomas Hobbes and John Locke. 

After taking the Unit II Open Note Quiz, students worked together to compare and contrast the U.S. Bill of Rights to the English Bill of Rights by making a venn diagram. 

If you were absent, you'll need me to tell you which person you will focus on. Please let me know if you have any questions. This is worth 30 points! :)

Today we discussed the "Glorious Revolution" and the English Bill of Rights. Document 3a (attached below) is HW. 

Today we discussed (went over specific questions) the Unit I Exam (Foundations of Democracy). We also did a self-evaluation (please see attachment below), which we'll do after receiving the results of each test (the attached template will be used throughout the entire year!). 

Today we discussed "Cromwell's Protectorate" and the "Restoration of the English Crown" (notes attached below). Students also reviewed their notes by completing 1-4 of the attached Timeline and 1-7 of the attached Review Worksheet. 

Today we finished the notes (attached) that we started on Friday. If you were absent that day or today, you need to get the attached notes and also complete the attached "Cromwell' alternative assignment. 

Today we discussed the background and beginning of the English Civil War (notes attached below). We'll finish this on Monday, along with video clips from "Cromwell". If you were absent, please get the attached notes and complete the attached assignment to make up for missing the video clips. 

Today students worked individually and then shared their answer with a partner. Please see the questions and the information below. We also started (but did not finish) the attached PPT on the English Civil War- King Charles I. Let me know if you have questions. 

Today, students worked alone and in pairs to complete one of the two attached assignments. 

Attached is the Unit I Study Guide. Please utilize it to prepare for the test on Friday, September 11th. 

Today, students took the Unit I Test. If the test is missed, it should be made up tomorrow after school or this Friday during class. Please bring textbooks tomorrow. 

Today we discussed how England became a Protestant (Anglican/Church of England) country under King Henry VIII. Please study this information for your Unit I Test tomorrow. 

Today we discussed the Protestant Reformation (notes attached). I also showed pictures pertaining to September 11, 2001. Your test is still next Tuesday, September 15th. Today we finished up the jigsaws we started yesterday. Please see attachment below to make sure you understand each clause in the Magna Carta. Next, we discussed the influence of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism on Western Democracy. I've also attached your HW- the Hebrew Ten Commandments to analyze. 

Today, we discussed the Legacy of Ancient Rome (notes attached). I assigned the attached "Democracy Map". Please follow all directions, but you do not YET need to write the significance of France and England. You should also be studying for the Unit I Test which is Friday, September 11th.

Due to this week's funky schedule, I've had to switch some things around and push the Unit I test back to next Tuesday, September 15th. Today we discussed the Magna Carta. Students then completed a jigsaw (some groups will finish tomorrow) breaking down and explaining to their group members their assigned Magna Carta clause. HW tonight is to study for next Tuesday's Unit I Test!  

After finishing the Athens vs. U.S. Venn Diagram (attached), I gave out the Unit I Test Study Guide (Friday, September 11th). Students then wrote their 25 minute in-class paragraph answering the question: Was Athens a Democracy? Students were then able to work on the attached Roman Empire Map, which is due 09-04-15. 

Today, students worked in groups to create a venn diagram comparing the United States' democracy to Athens' democracy; we then discussed their answers and made corrections if necessary. We also went over information for the in-class timed paragraph students will be writing in class. Students are encouraged to utilize the attached directions and graphic organizer.

Today we discussed to what extent the United States is a true democracy. We then discussed the in-class essay students will write on Thursday (attached below). We also discussed the Greek Philosophers (attached below). I assigned the attached Plato's "Republic" to read and answer questions about for HW, due tomorrow. 

Today we discussed the "Legacy of Ancient Greece", which includes a lot of information necessary for Wednesday's in-class timed written paragraph regarding Athenian Democracy. Please let me know if you have questions. I also assigned the attached Primary Source Document (PSD) to read and answer the related questions. This PSD is also useful for Wednesday's in-class timed written paragraph. 

Today, we discussed "What is Gov't?" (attached below). I also assigned a reading by Aristotle with questions attached. Please read the article, underline or hi-light important information as you go, and make notes in the margin as you read. Please then answer the questions on the last page. Please e-mail me with any questions you have. *Please remember to bring your textbook Monday (5 points!)

Today we went over classroom procedures. We then discussed "What are the characteristics of a democracy?" as a class. Next, we went over the attached PPT. Students should review and use their notes to complete the attached HW. 

Tuesday in class we discussed the question "Why is it important to study history" (good answers!). I introduced what "arguments" are vs. "facts" in history, and we discussed the importance of strong evidence when making an argument. (From the attached document) we analyzed Source #1 as a class and filled in the chart below it. Students then got into groups, read and analyzed Sources #2 and #3 and filled in their respective charts. Students are expected to finish analyzing and filling in the charts of Sources 1-3 by Wednesday. The entire assignment is due Thursday.

Today in class, student worked in groups to analyze Documents 4 and 5 of the attached DBQ packet. As a class, we then went over all five documents for understanding. Tonight, students are to complete the attached Microsoft Word document ("Background information"  through "Conclusion") tonight and turn in tomorrow.
