English II (Period 4) Assignments

Here are the prompts for final exam.

Cuckoo seminar tomorrow!

PRESENTATIONS TOMORROW!  Review rubric and works cited documents below to make sure you have everything!

We have a seminar on Thursday.  All students are required to bring in three STRONG discussion questions to contribute.  You may ask about anything from the start of the novel to the end of Part 3.  I uploaded question stems to help you.

Please bring in 3 strong discussion questions on any section of the novel, from beginning to the end of Part 3.  You will be turning these in.  Look at the question stems I have uploaded for ideas.

I have uploaded the keys to researching...

Please read "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" - if you have the Penguin publishers copy please read to page 42.  If you use the pdf uploaded below, please read to page 26. 

Any other copy, read until the chapter ends with "And, like I explain, the Big Nurse gets real put out if anything keeps her outfit from running smooth".

Please review the reading calendar to make sure you are keeping up with the book.  Also I have attached the research assignment.  The signed packet is due Friday!

Please read the following 2 ee cummings' poems and answer the questions.

After reading MLK's "Letter from Birmingham Jail", write an editorial (opinion piece, you can use "I") reflecting on how realistic you believe King's views are in today's society.  TYPED 250-300 words!

Begin reading MLK's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" for Friday's class (p. 1137 in textbook).  Please bring your textbooks the next two days to class!

Please read the following article on "The Beat Generation" and the Ginsberg poem.  I have uploaded both in one document.

I have uploaded the Spring Break extra credit as well as the stories.  Please choose ONE option.

Those in the fishbowl on Monday please read the following speech on Colorism.  Those not in the fishbowl should be working on their portfolio.

Please look at the fishbowl roster for Friday.  Those in the fishbowl must read the opinions article and create THREE discussion questions.  I have also provided the article and question stems below.  You may also bring in a poem for discussion if you wish.

Please read Countee Cullen's first two poems for class - "Rendezvous" and "For a Poet".  You may use the other two for either your reflections or your explications if you like.

Please read "People" by Jean Toomer. I have also included other poems Toomer for you to consider for your explications or reflections.

Please read WEB DuBois and be prepared to discuss.

Read Hughes' "I, Too, Sing America" on page 925 in textbook.  Bring textbook or hard copy of poem to class.

I have attached the MLA handout and the transitions handout.  Please reference when writing your essay.

Your working thesis is due Monday.  Please review attached essay assignment for prompts and requirements.

I have attached a digital copy of the Gatsby vocabulary.  

Please complete the analysis handout for tomorrow.  Write questions for discussion under your chapter 7 quotes.  BE PREPARED FOR SOCRATIC SEMINAR TOMORROW!

Write a paragraph answering the question: What is Ambrose Bierce's view on war? Use textual evidence and cite it!

Please read "An Occurrence at Owl Creek" on page 581 of your textbook.  Bring in textbook tomorrow.

Read Twain's "Story of the Bad Little Boy" - I have uploaded a copy of the text

Please write a paragraph based on one of the prompts.  You need a topic sentence, evidence, analysis and a concluding sentence.  Please cite pages for your evidence.

Vocab sentences 91-105

Please write a nature poem (6-8 lines MINIMUM).  You do not need to follow a certain form or rhyme scheme, but make sure to use IMAGERY!

EXTRA CREDIT: Please read Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher" (attached) and answer the discussion questions with textual evidence (attached).  Please type your answers.  This is due on the Monday we return from Thanksgiving 12/2.

Please read Longfellow's "A Psalm of Life".  It is on page 345 of your textbook or find it and print it off the internet.

Read Declaration of Independence for tomorrow (p. 271).

Based on our readings this week (Patrick Henry, MLK, Malcolm X, "I am Joaquin"), create THREE strong discussion questions for Tuesday.
