US History (Period 1) Assignments

Today some of my students gave a special presentation on their experiences with Sojourn to the Past. We then discussed the Civil Rights Movement for women's rights and gay rights.

Today we finished discussing Vietnam. We also reviewed released CST questions in groups and the presentations will be finished up the next time we meet.

Today we reviewed for the CST by working groups to go over the released questions. We then discussed the end of the Vietnam War and did a CST review Crossword.

TOday we discussed the Vietnam war (finish on Monday) and students took the 2nd 1/2 of the History Bee Qualifier. I also assigned the attached Microsoft Word Doc on the Tonkin Gulf Resolution which is due Monday.

Today we finished discussing Civil Rights and then took the first half of the History Bee Qualifier. I also assigned HW: analysis of a speech by Malcolm X as well as the Black Panther Party's plan, due Thursday.

Today Ms. Indelicato came in to speak to students about the importance of the upcoming CSTs/ STAR Testing. We then discussed the important strides made in ending legalized racial discrimination during the Eisenhower administration.Lastly, we ended with a youtube clip about the "blue eyes vs brown eyes" experiment done by a 3rd grade teacher in the late 1960s.

Today students took the CW war Test. Students were then assigned a preview sheet on the next unit. Unfortunately, the 2nd side to this didn't come out properly. Please see the attached Microsoft Word document to complete the assignment.

Today we discussed the inequalities and violent racism experienced by minorities in the 1950s.

Today we wrapped up WWII by discussing the U.S. occupation of Japan and the Nuremberg Trials. We then reviewed for the test on Monday.

Today students worked independently and then in pairs to debate the decision to drop the atomic bomb. Please see me for handouts and directions.

Today we discussed discrimination in the U.S. during WWII. Period 5 also completed used the textbook to answer questions based on Executive Order 9066 and the US Supreme Court case "Korematsu vs. U.S.". This is attached to yesterday's entry.

Today we went over the WWII Study Guide (attached below). Your test is next Monday, March 19th. Students then used their textbooks to complete the questions (attached below) on the Supreme Court case, "Korematsu vs. United States" and turned them in to me. Some classes also finished the attached PowerPoint on WWII battles in the Pacific.

Today I took time out of class to discuss the Ohio high school shooting; specifically bullying, the importance of reporting, and the importance of wearing IDs. We then discussed the Hitler and Mussolini's advancements in Europe and Africa during WWII.

Today students met with their counselors to schedule next year's classes. Please make sure you see your counselor ASAP if you were absent. Also, if you were absent, please make sure you turn in your CH. 16 summary to me. The attached document is due Tuesday.

Today we reviewed WWII's roots in WWI. We also completed the attached chart to see what students remembered from last year about WWII. Lastly, I assigned the New Deal Program Poster project. * Please remember to meet me at the Guidance Counselor's offices with your textbook, completed green schedule sheet, and your HW.

Today students took the 1930s test which covered the Great Depression and the New Deal. Students were also assigned a reading (please see me) with which they need to hi-light or underline main information and then answer the questions on a separate sheet of paper in complete sentences. This is due Monday.

Today the counselors came in to talk to students about scheduling their classes for next year. Please make sure you see me if you were absent. Also, please speak with your parents and friends regarding your future classes and teachers. Please be advised that we will meet with the counselors next Monday, February 27th and they will not see you without the green form completely filled out.
