US History (Period 2) Assignments

Please write one paragraph (5-7 sentences) for EACH of the following questions.

1. Which aspect of the Civil Rights Movement would you have joined? Explain.


2. Relating to the video we watched today: would you have participated in the Birmingham Student Walk-out? Explain.

Today I handed out the Final Exam Study Guide, the directions for the Civil Rights Project, and we reviewed the Civil Rights information discussed prior to the CSTs. All of these are attached below. Please see me to find out who you're doing your Civil Rights Project on. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Today we discussed the end of the Cold War, some of the aspects of Nixon and Reagan's presidencies, and the Civil Rights Movement.

Today we discussed how post-WWII issues led to the Cold War (please see the entry for 05-09-11 for these notes). We then discussed the Cold War in the 1950s & 1960s.

Today we reviewed how the end of WWII led to the Cold War.

Today we took the second half of the History Bee qualifier. We then finished WWII and I gave a second review packet, due Monday.

Today we did the first half of the CST Released Questions/ History Bee qualifier. We then learned more about WWII, Lastly, I gave students a packet of review materials. Please have this completed by the next time I see you (Thursday or Friday).

On Friday we were discussing how the U.S. became prepared for war. HW is due Monday- you'll need your textbook to complete the attached questions and chart.

TOday we continued discussing America's involvement in WWII. Please see notes attached for last Friday.

Today we watched a History Channel Video on Pearl Harbor. Students were required to answer questions as they watched.

Today we finished discussing FDR's Foreign policy and how it changed from being isolationist to "neutral" to gearing up for WWII.

Today we finished discussing the Holocaust. Please complete the worksheet passed out in class.

Today we went over the New Deal Essay assignment, which is due Friday, April 22. Please see attachment below.

Today we reviewed Europe in the 1930s and the Holocaust.

Today we took the 1930s test. Students then took a mini-quiz (worth a flat 10 participation points) to see what they remembered from World History about WWII. If you were absent, we'll reschedule your test. Please print out the mini-quiz, complete it, and turn it in to me.

Today we finished discussing the effects of the NEw Deal on different groups of minorities.

Today we had some technical difficulties. Most classes finished the 2nd New Deal (see notes from Wednesday) and analyzed New Deal posters. Please make sure you follow the directions of the New Deal Poster analysis and turn in to me on Monday.

Today we discussed the effects of New Deal programs on specific minorities. Students also received a graphic organizer in class and were asked to fill out part of it (1st box for Women and African-Americans, Identify John Collier and the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934 on the back). If you were absent, please get this from me tomorrow.

Today we went over the Great Depression/ New Deal study guide. We also discussed the New Deal essay assignment (please see other entry).

Today we discussed how Hoover handled the problems caused by the Great Depression.

Today we finished watching clips of "The Grapes of Wrath". We then discussed the film. After discussion we started taking notes on Hoover's Handling of the GD. We'll finish this on Monday.

Today we watched film clips from "The Grapes of Wrath". This movie is based on the book "The Grapes of Wrath", by John Steinbeck. If you were absent, please read about the book/film on pages 496, 514 of your textbook and be familiar with the plot.

Attached are the directions for the 1920s project, as well as the rubrics for each possible asignment. Please ask me if you have any questions.

Today we discussed policies during Pres. Coolidge's presidency. Remember, 1920s Test tomorrow! IDs are:

Today we finished the 1920s Slang assignment (attached for your fun!). I've also attached the 1920s Study Guide (which I now have copies of in class).

Today I collected the "Flapper Heads" assignment- many looked swell. I then handed out the options for the 1920s project (please see attachment below). I will pass out the rubrics for this assignment on Friday so look over the options for this assignment and try to figure out which one you want to do. Lastly, students had the option of working together or alone, writing a radio broadcast about three things from the 1920s using slang from the 1920s. Please see directions below, as well as a copy of the 1920s slang. We will finish this project on Friday.

Today Mr. Drummond visited the class to discuss the importance of proper attendance, especially with regards to the "No Go" list and Prom requirements. We then discussed the Harlem Renaissance. As you view the PowerPoint, click on the pictures- some of them link to websites you should check out!

Today we watched a video about the Scopes Trial. If you were not in class today, please read pages 438-439 and answer the questions on the document attached below.

Today we reviewed the Fall Final Exam in groups.

Today students took the WWI QUEST. Please make sure to get your absence cleared in order to make this up. I then passed out the "Schenck vs. US" reading and questions (please get from folder in class). Please e-mail me if you need assistance with this assignment.

Today we wrapped up WWI and its aftermath. Please remember to study for the WWI QUEST tomorrow.
