English 10 is a one-year course that surveys, in depth, literary genres of memoir, novel, poetry, short story, drama and nonfiction. The course also provides instruction in and practice with the writing process, deeper reading strategies, and several types of essay writing. The course will introduce basic elements of oral communication, emphasizing development of articulation, poise, and confidence in speaking, as well as developing a sense of audience.

SCENE BY SCENE
ACT IV SCENE i
1. Now that Oberon got his revenge, he decides to use the reverse potion on Titania. It works, and she thinks her love for Bottom was just a dream.
2. Theseus, Hippolyta, and their crew enter the forest to listen to the dogs. They encounter the four lovers and ask for their story. Things are foggy to them, as the events seem dream-like.
3. Bottom wakes from a nap, thinking his fling with Titania was just a dream. He decides that Peter Quince should write a ballad about it called “Bottom’s Dream.”
ACT IV SCENE ii
1. The craftsmen are upset that Bottom will no longer be part of their play.
2. Snug delivers the news that the wedding ceremony is over, and that Theseus and Hippolyta were married, along with two or three others. (We can assume that it’s Lysander and Hermia, and Demetrus and Helena.)
3. Bottom returns, to the relief of the other actors, and they leave to perform their play.

ACT 3 SCENE 1
1. Craftsmen meet in woods to practice play
2. When Bottom steps aside, Puck/Robin transforms his head into a donkey’s head.
3. Ass-headed Bottom returns to the men, and they run away in terror.
4. Titania wakes, sees Bottom, and falls in love with him.
5. Bottom is not shocked about her feelings and is clueless about being a jackass (literally and figuratively).
ACT 3 SCENE 2
1. Oberon discovers Puck’s mistake of putting the love potion on Lysander; he then squeezes the flower juice onto Demetrius’s eyelids.
2. Helena accuses both Lysander and Demetrius of mocking her, and also accuses Hermia of being in on the joke. There is almost a cat fight.
3. Demetrius and Lysander decide they’re going to duel, but Oberon sends Puck to keep them away from each other.
4. Puck sprinkles the “reverse potion” on Lysander’s eyelids, in hopes that when he wakes, he’ll love Hermia again.

3. Titania and Oberon fight about infidelity and the young boy who is an Indian prince.
4. We learn of Oberon’s revenge plan: he sends Puck after the magical flower.
5. The love potion from the flower is to be used on Titania and Demetrius.

2. Puck/Robin Goodfellow puts potion on Lysander’s eyes by mistake.

Hermia is left with three options: marry Demetrius, convent, death.
3. Hermia and Lysander devise a run away plan.
4. They share the plan with Helena; Helena plans to tell Demetrius in an effort to win him back.
ACT 1 SCENE 2
1. Peter Quince works with a group of men to organize a play to be performed at Theseus and Hippolyta’s wedding celebration.
2. Nick Bottom continually interrupts with advice and to show off his acting skills.
3. The group plans to meet in the woods the following night to rehearse.
