I've spent the last four years teaching art to the students of Farragut, La Ballona, and El Marino. I'm excited to be working with CCHS students and connecting with them through our art practice.
I was born in Argentina and moved to the United States when I was seven. I was raised by two Mathematicians who instilled in me an awe of math and science, a respect for art and music, and a love for classic and quirky films. If you ask what my favorite movie is, it's a tie between Casablanca and Starstruck (1982, Australia). Music? I love Opera and Hip Hop, but I also love tangos from Argentina! Art? Right now, I'm especially interested by the artists who are working to reinterpret art history through more equitable and inclusive perspectives and practices. Kehinde Wiley and Tawny Chatmon are two of my favorites.
I feel lucky to have attended U.C. Berkeley, completing my B.A. in Psychology and Social Welfare. My B.F.A. is in Painting and Photography from Hunter College in NYC. And my Visual Art Teaching Credential is from Cal State LA, with a Bilingual Authorization to teach in Spanish.
I live here in Culver City, where I am an advocate for the arts and equity. My philosophy in the art room is that art is practice and we need to connect with our own personal style, without placing expectations on ourselves that set us up for disappointments. The more we practice, the more we improve our confidence, and the more at ease we are to create art.
Margaret Alarcón and I, working with the elementary students of CCUSD, designed the Centennial Benches that sit outside the high school. Funded by Sony Pictures and installed as a gift from the elementary students to the secondary students, each has a name of the five elementary schools of CCUSD. The water themed tile is to represent the education students receive at their elementary schools and how it continues to water the ground at the secondary schools, where they go to further their education.
I am biliterate in English and Spanish and welcome any conversation about language and culture, something that fascinates me.
My office hours are Tuesdays from 1:30 - 2:15. Canvas has the zoom link. Stop by and say "hi"!
¡Soy de Argentina y hablo Español!
