WELCOME!
Hello, and welcome to Culver City High School! I teach Health to incoming 9th graders, and it is my pleasure to help ease students into their first year of high school. There are many aspects of health that will be beneficial to students for the rest of their lives. My hope is that I can support them within our health class, and then develop a relationship where they feel supported throughout their whole high school experience. Students will learn about me as a person, and as their teacher, and I make it my personal mission to share life experiences with them so that they know that we are all in this together. My philosophy is this: We are all people first. I take my instruction from a lens of compassion and understanding first, while encouraging students to be their best selves, both academically and characteristically. I firmly believe that students will succeed if they know they are being supported and encouraged to succeed, and there is no success without people to help them get to where they want to be.
EDUCATION & CAREER:
Prior to acquiring my position as Health Teacher at CCHS, I taught Health Education for non-profit organizations. My focus was chronic disease prevention and environmental health education. My passion for public health is what led me to study and obtain my Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science, and then my teaching credential in Health Science from Long Beach State University (Go Beach!). I just love all things health! My next pursuit is to obtain my Master's in Public Health, with an emphasis in mental health (because it is so important!).
PERSONAL HAPPENINGS:
I am a native So Cal girl who grew up in the South Bay, always visiting the beach whenever I could. Though my time at the beach has been limited as of late, the little loves of my life have replaced my love for sun and surf and now my days are spent with my husband and partner of over 20 years alongside our two most amazing -albeit wildly energetic- little ones. We love to spend time with friends, go on walks, and be actively involved in community events. For my own self-care (because we all know it's important), I love to read and write (though, where do I find the time? I don't know?), meditate, get together with family and friends, frequent the spa, travel, and go to Disneyland (especially during the holidays).
SEE YOU SOON!
It is my hope, as we get to know each other, you will learn that being your child's teacher is a most important role in my life; and together, we can support one another in this most great adventure of scholastic learning and life navigating.
