A little about me

I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and moved with my family to Californian when I was 7. I was raised by two Mathematicians who instilled in me an awe of math and science, respect for art, literature and music, and a love for films. In fact, I spent 16 years working in film production (imdb). I still consider myself an English learner at heart and love any discussion about language and culture. I'm proud to be bilingual! 

My educational philosophy

I believe everyone is an artist! My philosophy in the art room is that art is practice and students need to connect with their own personal style, without comparing themselves to others. The more we practice, the more comfortable we are with our art making. I also encourage personal expression in projects as well as exploration of identity and culture. I taught art at El Marino, La Ballona and Farragut before transferring to CCHS in 2020. I am in my 6th year at CCHS, and 11th with CCUSD. I teach Drawing & Painting and Art & Culture. 

About my classes

Drawing & Painting and Art & Culture both welcome a full range of artistic abilities and are aimed to build confidence in art making skills, while learning about living artists, and helping to improve a student’s confidence in their art making. Focus is on finding and building your own style, and not comparing yourself to others.

Drawing & Painting

In Drawing & Painting, students learn the different techniques of observational drawing, learning to ‘draw what they see’. They also learn about perspective and proportion, value and space, and color theory. When we start with painting, students learn to work in layers to add value and texture, and to create the illusion of three dimensionality in their work. Materials used are graphite, charcoal, pen, pastels, collage, watercolor and acrylic. All materials are provided, including an in class sketchbook.

Art & Culture

In Art & Culture, students learn to work with all the materials listed above, but also create paper maché sculptures and turn books into 3D assemblages. Focus is on how to express the many layers of their identity in their projects, and how artists can use art to make a statement, sometimes with the intention to bring about societal change. All materials are provided, including an in class sketchbook.

Sobre mí

Nací en Buenos Aires, Argentina, y me mudé con mi familia a California a los 7 años. Mis padres son matemáticos que me inculcaron la admiración por las matemáticas y las ciencias, el respeto por el arte, la literatura y la música, y el amor por el cine. De hecho, trabajé 16 años en producción cinematográfica (imdb). Me sigo considerando un estudiante de inglés y me encanta cualquier conversación sobre el idioma y la cultura. Me siento orgullosa de ser bilingüe.

Mi filosofía educativa

¡Creo que todos somos artistas! Mi filosofía en el aula de arte es que crear arte requiere práctica y que los estudiantes necesitan conectar con su propio estilo personal, sin compararse con los demás. Cuanto más practicamos, más cómodos nos sentimos con nuestra creación artística. También fomento la expresión personal en proyectos, así como la exploración de la identidad y la cultura. Enseñé arte en El Marino, La Ballona y Farragut antes de transferirme a CCHS en 2020. Estoy en mi sexto año en CCHS y undécimo en CCUSD. Enseño Dibujo & Pintura y Arte & Cultura.

Sobre mis clases

Los estudiantes de Dibujo & Pintura y Arte & Cultura demuestran habilidades artísticas variadas y el objetivo de la clase es ayudarles a desarrollar la confianza en sus habilidades artísticas, mientras aprendemos sobre artistas diversos y practicamos para mejorar su confianza en su creación artística. El enfoque está en encontrar y construir un estilo propio, sin compararse con los demás.

Dibujo y Pintura

En Dibujo & Pintura, los estudiantes aprenden las diferentes técnicas del dibujo, aprendiendo a dibujar lo que ven. También aprenden sobre perspectiva y proporción, valor y espacio, y teoría del color. Cuando empezamos con pintura, los estudiantes aprenden a trabajar en capas para añadir valor y textura, y a crear la ilusión de tridimensionalidad en sus obras. Los materiales utilizados son lápiz, carboncillo, pluma, pastel, collage, acuarela y acrílico. Se proporcionan todos los materiales, incluyendo un cuaderno para uso en la clase.

Arte y Cultura

En Arte y Cultura, los estudiantes aprenden a trabajar con todos los materiales mencionados, además de crear esculturas de papel maché y convertir libros en collages 3D. El enfoque se centra en cómo expresar las múltiples capas de su identidad en sus proyectos y cómo los artistas pueden usar el arte para expresar su mensaje, a veces con la intención de generar un cambio social. Se proporcionan todos los materiales, incluyendo un cuaderno para uso en la clase.
