can you remember how it felt when you first entered High School the excitement the apprehension the long hallways everyone seems so much older and so cool if it felt like a really big jump It's because it was in Middle School you and your friends were the biggest you ruled but now you're in the midst of one of the big transitions your life you may as well be coming from a different planet entering a whole new world and you've got a long way yet to go to figure it all out you face the challenge of establishing yourself personally socially and of course academically the truth is how freshman transition makes all the difference freshman grades and attendance are the factors that most influenced there later academic success and yet while many conventional at risk groups get a lot of attention resources freshman arguably the largest at risk group at your school are left to their own devices and often end of lost although they try efforts to get freshmen on the path to success often fall short schools might host an orientation pep rally and give students a tour and provide lots of what the school considers important information but is it the right information at the right time delivered in the right way the reality is freshmen or still falling through the cracks order for freshman to transition smoothly and become successful they need more than school rules in a school map they need a real connection to this new place General schools ReliOn extracurriculars like clubs student government and sports to provide them with that connection that how many students actually participate 20% 25% pep rallies and information package are not enough without a clear reason to be in high school and real connections while there freshmen are truly at risk freshmen need to believe someone cares that's where Lincoln comes in for over 20 years link crew has successfully given schools a structure to instill lasting School connections invest ensure the success of freshman in transition the link crew year begins with a Nemak and fun orientation date that leads into a year-long transition and peer mentoring program enter woven into the year-long program or a variety of academic and personal follow-up connections designed to lead freshman to success every freshman who walks through the door is connected to an older student a link leader who will be a guide and a source of support throughout their first year High School  under the guidance of trained Educators who are the link crew coordinators Junior and your link leaders grow into significant roles of leadership and responsibility at your school freshman feel safer because they have an older friend watching out for them and someone to turn to may need advice direction or information freshmen are happier because they have someone to rely on they feel like they belong so attendance goes up discipline problems go down old school environment changes for the better once you're freshman have a safe landing
