Hi Everyone,

Welcome back! I hope you have had a nice quarantine break so far, and that you and your families are in good health! I miss you all very much, and I am very sad that we can't see each other in the classroom anymore, but we will move our lessons online so we can continue learning English together! :)

Reminder: We will be on Block Schedule for the rest of the school year while we are staying at home, so please check the schedule below. This means our class will take place on Mondays and Thursdays. I will check in with you on Monday online through Zoom and then you can do the rest of the work at home the rest of the time on Monday and Thursday. I will post information on the HW page, so please check it.

To start, I noticed on IXL that most of you have not kept up with doing the exercises at home. If you do not have a Chromebook at home or you have to share 1 computer with other siblings, please check out a computer from the Tech Center at school tomorrow, April 6 from 10am to 12 pm. The school will allow you to keep these laptops until the end of the school year so you can do your work online! You will need access to IXL and Lexia so you can continue learning English while we stay at home.

Next, I want to discuss your test on run-on sentences. I will move your test to Thursday, April 9, so you can review the packets I gave you and do the exercises on IXL. The test will be on NoRedInk online, so be sure to check your email on Thursday.
Last, I want to "see" you online using Zoom. đź¤— Here's the link for instructions on how to join a meeting on Zoom: https://youtu.be/hIkCmbvAHQQPlease watch this video so you'll know how to log in.

This is the link for the Zoom Meeting on April 9, Thursday, at 9:00 AM: https://zoom.us/j/861996377?pwd=c25XKzJzd1k5NGVmeFB2VVN5dm1BZz09. Please make sure you put in your first and last name, so I can admit you into the class discussion. If you don't put your name, I will not let you in. I will send you another invitation reminder so you won't forget.

Please let me know if you have any questions, I look forward to seeing your faces on Thursday! :)

Sincerely,
Dr. Balatayo

Assignment

We have learned of a need to have another Chromebook distribution day, as not all students who needed one were able to get them yesterday. Therefore, our AWESOME library and technology staff will be checking out Chromebooks  at the library tomorrow, Wednesday 3/18 from 10:30-noon.  These times also correspond with the Food Services Free lunch program.

Take Care Everyone,

Dr. B

Dear Students,

I hope my message finds you well and safe at home. Your safety is our priority, and I understand this is an unprecedented time for all of us, but we will all do our best to address issues that may arise. Here are some instructions for working on your projects remotely. Please note that the following directions were given to you all on Friday, and that groups have had time to delegate jobs to every member. However, some of you were absent, so I will repeat/re-post them here.

1) All ELD Students: Work on Lexia OR IXL for an hour every day. For example, if you did Lexia today, do IXL tomorrow. I am monitoring your progress online EVERY DAY, so please do your work! We will have a test on Fragments and Run-Ons when you return from spring break.

2) ELD 2/3 students: Please check your email and also do the Chomp, Chomp exercises for run-ons, fragments, and irregular verbs:http://www.chompchomp.com/exercises.htm#Comma_Splices_and_Fused_Sentences

3) Here is the link to the Run-ons (fused sentences), Comma Splices and Fragments packet:https://ccusd-cchs.edlioadmin.com/apps/classes/816835/939443/assignments

4) Please email me using your CCHS school email for any questions.

I hope you all stay safe and well during our time apart. I will miss you all!

Take Care,

Dr. Balatayo
