Maybe you can tell that this week you are engaging with the key issues that impact our American Democracy. To recap - yesterday you looked at the US compared with other democracies followed by an overview of the electoral college process. Today's focus is on... get excited... gerrymandering!  
 
Wednesday's Assignments:
1. Gerrymandering Reading and Annotation
a. Take out your stapled packet from yesterday.
b. Silently read and annotate (margin notes) the reading on gerrymandering.
d. Add more information about what you learned in the video clip to your margin annotations.
 
2. Extra Time/Binder Organization
a. If you finished gerrymandering, use the remaining time to complete any unfinished work from Tuesday or organize your binders according to the whiteboard.

1) Take notes (identity charts or other types of notes) on the attached power point - Liberal Conservative Into Notes_18. (This will be assignment number 17 in your binder that you picked up yesterday or took off of the back table.)
 
2) Liberal/Conservative Statements
    1. Find your liberal/conservative sort (assignment #16).
    2. Identify one of the statements and answer the question - Why? Why do liberals or conservatives believe what they believe in connection to that statement? After conducting some internet research and coming to an answer, write the answer on the back of your liberal/conservative sort. (I will be checking for completion on Monday.)
 
3) Are you Conservative or Liberal?
    1. Ask the sub for an Are you conservative or liberal reading? (please note: this is a class set, please don't write on the reading or can they take it with you) There are directions on activities to complete throughout the reading. Please complete the reading and the activities on a separate sheet of paper. This will be assignment #18.
