Lesson Design

Standards

        Goal.

        Objective (s)

California State Content Standards and Benchmarks

Anticipatory Set: (Not a sponge activity)

How are the students going to buy into this? . How is the students' interest level raised?

How is this lesson connected with the students' prior knowledge?

Input/Modeling

What type of presentation? Direct lesson? Inquiry? Jigsaw? etc.

Does the presentation match the content being taught?

Does the presentation address the needs of all students?

Is the model clear and unambiguous?

Does the modeling address the critical attribute(s) of the lesson?

Checking for Understanding:

Is each student asked to show evidence of understanding?

Methods: teacher asks open ended questions, teacher moves around the room and checks on students, active participation (individual, pairs, groups).

Does the teacher monitor and adjust to accommodate students who don't

 understand?

Guided Practice

Do students have the opportunity to work with material that was modeled?

Are students working in groups, pairs, individually?

Independent Practice

Do students have the opportunity to work with material by themselves?

Does independent practice take place in the classroom, at home or both?

Closure (Full closure might not take place until the unit is completed; open ended questionsrelated to a daily lesson will bring closure for that lesson)

How are the components of the lesson all brought together?

How is the lesson made relevant?

Is there evidence of how this lesson will be woven into future learning? I
