Consider the many ways you can make a difference through volunteering!   The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) is looking for volunteers to help enrich the lives of our Veterans by donating your time, energy, and expertise.  VAGLAHS is one of the largest health care facilities within the Department of Veterans Affairs serving Veterans residing throughout five counties: Los Angeles, Ventura, Kern, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo.  Below are available volunteer opportunities that you can participate and see the Application form above:

Job Title

Community Relations & Nonprofit Outreach Associate

Work Location

VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System – West Los Angeles Campus

Purpose of the Position

Research and solicit items from local area businesses to help extend the resources in the Voluntary Service and to better assist and direct the needs of our clients. 

Volunteer Responsibilities

·  Connect with people in the community by creating sponsorship agreements and cultivating relationships with businesses, individuals, and other relevant organizations

·  Develop and implement initiatives that increase VAGLAHS Voluntary Service visibility within the surrounding community

·  Inform and educate the community about the VAGLAHS Voluntary Service’s work, how they can donate, how they can volunteer and be advocate for our Veterans

·  Maintain a calendar of all community outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances and other communication opportunities

·  Schedule regular outreach exhibitions in the community

·  Nurture new and old relationships with collaborative partners

·  Prepare accurate records and reports on the goals of the fundraising plan

·  Oversee a professional donor management system

·  Assist in the organization of special events, including donor/volunteer appreciation events and other fundraising initiatives

·  Prepare an annual budget for community outreach activities

·  Identify additional outreach opportunities and communicate them to the volunteer coordinator

Requirements

·   Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and community-driven to take on this exciting role

·   Friendly with a positive attitude and readiness to be a team player

·   Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time

·   Strong organization and interpersonal skills

·   Dependable and punctual

·   Courteous and personable when dealing with the public

·   Self-directed, self-motivated, and willing to take initiative

·   Respect and maintain confidentiality of GLA staff, volunteers, donors, and documents

·   Experience preparing reports

·   Communicate effectively in person and on the telephone

·   Excellent written communication and presentation skills

·   Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), social media, and other basic marketing platforms

Training & Supervision

·  Volunteers are trained and supported to promote the best interests of the Veterans

·  Attends general volunteer orientation and will receive training specific to the role

·  All activities will be directed and monitored by the Assistant Chief of Voluntary Service

Time Commitment

Volunteers have an initial commitment of 4 hours per week, but may be extended based on the events scheduled and the needs of the organization

Evaluation

All volunteers complete a 60-day evaluation

Job Title

Technology Operations Assistant

Work Location

VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System – West Los Angeles Campus

Purpose of the Position

Provide administrative support to the Voluntary Service office specifically in the modernization and computerization of documents, processes, and guidelines

Volunteer Responsibilities

·   Responsible for answering the telephone, taking messages, doing minor troubleshooting, and calling the appropriate individual when problems occur

·   Converts documents, processes, and guidelines electronically

·   Creates database for tracking of schedules, donations, donors, events, performance metrics

·   Develops templates to help standardize processes

·   Documents processes and guidelines

·   Generates standard operating procedures

·   Helps with filing and data-entry

·   Assists the staff and other volunteers with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) such as Word

·   Helps in using the Internet but is not expected to provide formal instruction to users.

Requirements

·   Friendly with a positive attitude and readiness to be a team player

·   Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time

Purpose of the Position

Research and solicit items from local area businesses to help extend the resources in the Voluntary Service and to better assist and direct the needs of our clients. 

Volunteer Responsibilities

·         Prepares proposals by determining concept, gathering and formatting information, writing drafts, and obtaining approvals.

·         Develops proposal by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation.

  • Writes, revises, and edits drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials.
  • Prepares presentation by evaluating text, graphics, and binding and coordinating printing.

·         Coordinates requirements with contributors and contributes proposal status information to review meetings

  • Obtains approvals by reviewing proposal with key providers and project managers.
  • Improves proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplate.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
