Hello parents and students,

Thank you for your patience and flexibility in this unprecedented time of school dismissal. Culver City High School and the Math Department are dedicated to making sure that during this time of great uncertainty that students are able to continue with their learning remotely with the least amount of disruption to their education as possible.

I will be posting lessons, assignments, and helpful links on this webpage so that students are able to continue to receive lessons, practice assignments, etc., as we progress through this school dismissal. These will include pdf files of the notes and practice as well as videos of myself helping to fill out the notes on youtube (fingers crossed)

Please check the site frequently on school days, as I will be posting assignments periodically throughout the week, as needed.  My “office hours” will also from 2pm to 4pm the week of March 16th-20th, it will be during these office hours that I will be able to communicate with students through email most efficiently and quickly. However, please feel free to email me at any time with clarifications about the lessons, questions on the homework, etc., and I will try to get back to you as soon as I can.

The assessments planned for this week will be postponed until after Spring Break. If the school dismissal continues on after Spring Break, then assessments may have to be administered and students will be responsible for completing the assigned assessments. If that is the case, please check the website regularly for more info about how the exams will be administered.

UPDATE 3/16/20

Lastly for students tests have been entered for Algebra 2 and Calculus Classes.  The quiz in Calculus happened closed to school closure and the overall result is that it didn't really help raise ones grade so it was excluded from this grading period.  It would have been replaced by the CC 5 which will happen sometime after spring break.  The format of the test will depend on whether we are still in school dismissal.  If students have any questions about grades please email me.

3/18/20 9:00 Here is a video of how to do example 1 in our cross section notes using the formulas from the first page of the notes.  The reason why I worked it out different is because the page one formulas are nice short cuts to do the basic shapes but really you need to look at the area you are given and find a formula and relate it in terms of the reference length "s" .  So compare the two videos to see if that helps bridge the two ways to reason out the cross section volume.  

Today we covered how to find the area between two curves. 

 

Highlights include but not limited to:

a.  How to find the intersection of two graphs using a calculator 

b.  How to integrate with respect to y

Here are the notes we went over these last couple of days that involved applied integrals.  We analyzed units and FTC to better understand what the integral and derivative do in a problem.
