As you read, think of SOAPStone, along with the rhetorical appeals (ethos, logos, pathos) and rhetorical devices (themes, symbols, metaphors, etc.) used by the author to provide a convincing message.  Also, consider the role of equivocation in this article. Equivocation is the use of ambiguous language to conceal the truth, or to avoid committing oneself to a decision, choice, side, etc.
