We have two weeks apart, but we still need to get through the first half of Chapter 3, "Light and Atoms."<br><br>If you have not done so, please read Chapter 3, Section 3.1, "Properties of Light," pp 92-96.  Answer "Questions for Review," p 116, #1-3 and post the answers on edmodo (if you haven't handed them in on paper by Friday.)<br><br>New:  <br><br>READ Sections 3.2 "The Electromagnetic Spectrum: Beyond Visible Light", pp pp 96-101; 3.3, "Atoms," pp 101-104; and 3.4, "The Origin of Light," pp 104-105<br><br>  ANSWER  Rev. Questions p 116, #4, 5, 8, and 9.<br>Also, ANSWER these questions:<br><br>1.  How did Sir William Herschel show that heat from the Sun is related to visible light?<br><br>2.  How do infrared and ultraviolet radiation differ from visible light?<br><br>3.  What is the range of radio waves?<br><br>4.  Why are microwaves and gamma waves so difficult to study from the earth's surface?<br><br>5.  List, in order from LEAST energy to GREATEST energy generated, the types of EM (electromagnetic) radiation.<br><br>6.  List, in order from shortest wavelength to longest wavelength, the types of EM radiation.<br><br>7.  HOW are the answers for questions #4 & #5 related?<br><br>8.  A burner on an electric stove, as it heats up, glows dull red at first but after five minutes glows a bright yellow.  How does the color of the burner relate to the temperature of the burner?  <br><br>9.  What is Wein's Law?<br><br>10.  What is a blackbody?  Why are blackbodies excellent absorbers AND emitters of energy?<br><br>11.  Describe the parts and structure of an atom.<br><br>12.  How are electrons similar to planets in a solar system?  How are they different?<br><br>13.  What is an element?  How is the identity of an element determined?<br><br>14.  How are electrons bound to their nucleus?<br><br>15.  What is happening to an electron in when its atom is "excited?"  What is happening to the atom's energy?<br><br>16.  What is the Law of Conservation of Energy?
