Today I assigned the DBQ for the Final Exam. We looked over the actual assignment, students completed Document A in class and tonight for HW students will complete (read, annotate, hi-light or underline, and answer questions) Document B. Next, we started discussing "Managing and Resisting Imperialism". Students got the title slide, the 2nd slide (direct vs. indirect Imperialism) and through the 3rd slide on questions about Nigeria. These questions along with Document B of the DBQ need to be compete by tomorrow. Note: I do not have the best copies of the DBQ documents. If you were absent today, please get the DBQ pack from me tomorrow.

Today we did a "Voices from the Past" on Henry Stanley finding Dr. David Livingstone in Africa. Next, we completed the Imperialism in Africa notes. Lastly, we watched the video on Imperialism in Africa which was supposed to be shown on Wednesday (due to technical difficulties it was not shown).

Today I "caught up" with the students after being out for two days due to attending a conference. I was a bit disappointed in some of the behavior of the students and had a discussion with them about making better choices. We then jumped back into things by discussing the Types of Imperialism and starting to discuss Imperialism in Africa. I also gave out the Fall Semester Final Study Guide.

Today we started class with a discussion on last night's HW. Next, students completed a Warm-up. After the discussion of answers, we continued learning about Latin American revolutions, today discussing Mexico's Revolution for Independence. Today we finished up the Congress of Vienna. This is the last PPT for the Unit III Exam which will be on Monday. Please make sure you're studying! Next, started Unit IV: Nationalist Revolutions. We did a warm-up and after discussing the Warm-Up we started discussing the society of Latin America established by the Spaniards and Portuguese. We also started to discuss the slave-led revolution against the French in what is today Haiti.

Next, students worked in pairs or groups of three to look over five separate student-written examples of responses to the DBQ. These examples cannot be uploaded to the website so if you were absent today and wish to look them over, please come to my room tomorrow (Wednesday) at brunch or Thursday at lunch. Today we discussed the HW due today (King James I Speech to Parliament). Next, we jumped into the problems between King Charles I and Parliament which led to the English Civil War. Next, students read pages 78-79 of their textbook and answered question A in complete sentences. Today we had our first lesson for Unit I! First, students made a list of characteristics which good leaders have as well as characteristics of bad leaders. Students discussed their answers with a partner before we shared ideas with the class as a whole. Next, we discussed "Absolutism vs. Democracy" by taking notes and discussing the information as we went along. Lastly, students worked as pairs to apply their knowledge to real-world situations (last slide of attached PPT)
