About Ms. Schulte

Welcome to my class! I have been a proud Centaur staff member for 18 years. This year I am teaching five sections of English 9 Honors. I enjoy working with freshmen and welcome their energy and enthusiasm. The course outline for my class is attached to this page.
I'm looking forward to advising the Journalism Club and helping students create an informative and entertaining student news website. The club meets Thursdays at lunch and any student is welcome to join.
I am almost always available after school for tutoring. You don't even need to make an appointment -- just drop in!
As for my own education, I earned a bachelor's in English from UCSB, a teaching credential from San Francisco State, and a master's in technology-based education from Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Some interesting things about me: I have 11 siblings; I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco; I've lived in Guatemala and Japan; I have two daughters (both students at CCHS); my nephew, Casey Blake, played third base for the Dodgers (2008-2011).
My goal for this year is to help students reach their potential by providing opportunities for growth in a safe and nurturing environment.

Poetry Contest

The Sister Cities International organization is sponsoring a student writing contest. You can submit an essay or poem (perhaps a found poem?) on the following prompt: Through either an essay or a poem, illustrate how global connectivity allows an individual or community to thrive locally. How has this connectivity impacted you for the better?

First Week

I hope your first day at Culver City High School went smoothly. I enjoyed meeting all of you.

ENGLISH 9 Honors:  A few students asked if you would need the large orange literature book this week. The answer is: not this week. We will start using it next week, though. Leave it in your locker until further notice. This week we will be working with the two texts that you read over the summer, The Immortal LIfe of Henrietta Lacks and The House of the Scorpion. Today I collected the summer assignment from 3rd & 4th. I ran out of time with 1st period, so I will collect it tomorrow.

ENGLISH 9: A few students asked if you would need the large orange literature book this week. The answer is: not this week. We will start using it next week, though. Leave it in your locker until further notice. This week we will be working with the novel Unwind.

ELD III: I will keep a set of the class textbook EDGE in the classroom. You should have your own copy to keep at home.

Please email me if you have any questions.
