Welcome to your Summative Math class! This year-long course is for college-bound juniors and seniors who have completed Algebra II
with a D or better, but cannot or do not wish to move up to a higher level math class. The course will keep students engaged in
mathematics, filling any gaps in foundational math knowledge, and prepare students for the state mathematics and college entrance exams.
The course curriculum is aligned with the California State Content Standards. It emphasizes several big ideas in an integrated
algebra/geometry context.
Football is not learned by silently watching others play. Likewise, the only way you can become good at math is by doing problems and
talking about them. If you do both, you will learn math. Hence, you must have the willingness and maturity to do assignments everyday.
Because you will be working with others and independently, you are expected to:
• develop your ability to contribute to and benefit from working with others
• bring your textbook, calculator and well-organized notebook to class EVERY DAY;
• ask questions of others in your team when you do not understand; and
• be responsible for understanding all the work all year.
Please be sure to read the Course Syllabus, (file is below), and return the last page signed by both the student and the parent.
